Spring is in the air and it’s time to freshen up your home with some new decor! As the weather warms up and nature comes back to life, embark on some spring cleaning and give your home a mini makeover. Here are some tips to welcome the new season with style.

Give Your Walls a Fresh Coat of Paint

Painting your walls is one of the easiest ways to instantly give a room new life. I prefer light, cheerful colors that evoke the feeling of spring. Soft greens, sunny yellows, sky blues, and crisp whites are perfect choices. Paint not only updates the overall aesthetic but also makes the space feel cleaner and brighter.

Consider painting an accent wall in a bolder hue to add some drama. Turquoise, mint, and coral work nicely. I also like to use accent walls in entryways, dining rooms, or behind a bed as the color makes those spots feel more welcoming.

Update Furniture with New Slipcovers

An inexpensive way to spruce up tired furniture is to outfit it with new slipcovers. Light fabrics like cotton or linen in pretty pastels or floral prints make old sofas and chairs look brand new. I remove the old covers, then follow the instructions to properly put on the replacement slipcovers. This gives the room an instant facelift for a fraction of the cost of buying new furniture!

For further transformation, consider swapping out solid-colored pillows and throws for versions in fresh patterns and colors. I like to repeat a color or pattern from my slipcover for a cohesive look.

Style with Spring-Inspired Decor

In addition to paint and slipcovers, spring-inspired accessories can quickly give your home a seasonal refresh. Here are some of my favorite pieces to incorporate:

  • Floral pillows and throws
  • Pastel candles
  • Vases with fresh-cut flowers
  • Table runners or placemats in bright colors/patterns
  • Bunnies, birds, butterflies, and other springtime creatures as accents
  • Decorative branches, twigs, or wreaths

I may also rotate out darker dishes and linens for lighter ones in anticipation of sunny days ahead. These small touches make the home feel light and airy.

Deep Clean for a Fresh Start

Along with decor updates, spring is a great time to do a deep clean of the entire house. I like to tackle this room-by-room over the course of a few weekends. Thoroughly cleaning the floors, carpets, walls, windows, and furniture makes the whole house feel brand new again.

Here are some of my tips for an effective deep cleaning:

  • Wash walls and ceilings to remove cobwebs and dust
  • Clean window treatments like drapes and blinds
  • Shampoo carpets and rugs
  • Use a power washer for outdoor furniture and siding
  • Organize closets to clear out clutter
  • Disinfect surfaces in kitchen and bathrooms

A de-cluttered, spotless home provides the perfect blank canvas to build my new spring decor look.

Add Greenery and Florals

Nothing says spring quite like fresh greenery and flowers. I love decorating with leafy potted plants, herbs, and colorful blooms. Some easy ways to incorporate florals and greenery include:

  • A potted orchid or hyacinth on the kitchen table
  • A herb garden in the kitchen window
  • Tulips or daffodils in a vase on the entry table
  • Ferns or succulents on the patio or front stoop
  • A mini indoor tree like a fiddle leaf fig

I also like to place small pots of cheerful pansies or daisies throughout the house. The gorgeous colors and pleasant aromas are total mood boosters!

Out with the Old, In with the New

When prepping for spring decor, I always take the opportunity to remove any unused, worn out, or seasonally inappropriate items. Some categories I focus my purge on are:

  • Holiday decorations like Christmas trees or Menorahs
  • Heavy blankets, quilts and pillows
  • Seasonal candles in fall/winter scents
  • Cookbooks or dishes I no longer use
  • Outdated electronics and chargers
  • Kids’ toys they’ve outgrown
  • Clutter accumulating in drawers or closets

Donating or selling these items creates space for the new pieces I’ll use to welcome spring. Out with the old, in with the new!

Spring is an Uplifting Season

There’s something about spring that stirs up optimism and cheer. The warmer weather, blooming flowers, and increased sunlight naturally boost my mood. Freshening up the home with updates like brighter paint colors, floral accents, and deeper cleaning helps evoke those feelings of renewal.

I love infusing my living space with colors and patterns inspired by the season. It serves as a daily reminder of sunny days ahead. Though spring decor updates don’t have to be elaborate, a few simple touches go a long way in providing an uplifting environment to enjoy the season.
